The 12th Annual Robert Frost Poetry festival was held April 21st - 23rd, 2006 in the Heritage House Garden, Robert Frost Cottage, and at select Key West venues.
The festival again featured poetry and haiku workshops, poetry and haiku readings, an art & film event, and an international poetry and haiku contest. Featured poets were Dr. Michael Wyndham Thomas, Birmingham, England, Lee Gurga, Editor of Modern Haiku, Key West author and poet Rosalind Brackenbury, and Rebecca Seiferle.

Registration fees for 2006 workshop: $150 per person. (Pre-registration special -- $125 before March 1, 2006)
 

2006 Robert Frost Poetry Festival Schedule of Events

Thursday April 20, 2006
5:00 – 7:30 PM Robert Frost Garden (Optional)
Sunset Cigar Company will be hosting a Cigar and Wine Tasting with “manly” poetry. $10 admission and receive a logoed wine glass. All readers welcome.
 
Friday April 21, 2006
8:30 am – 9:30 am: Early Registration at the Museum
1:30 pm – 3:00 pm Pre-event workshop** –Performance Poetry with Richard Gruisin More information to come.
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm Pre-event workshop** – Cricket Desmarais
** Pre Event Workshops are Optional and are not included in the workshop fees

5:30 pm – 7:00 pm: Registration and opening reception for the work shoppers, guest poets,
 festival committee, sponsors. Catered by Kelly’s Caribbean Bar and Grill

7:30 pm: Frost goes to the Movies $20.00 admission (Optional)
Art Opening, Chocolate and Champagne , art with words art exhibit,
8:30 PM Movie – Il Postino – The Postman
Saturday April 22, 2006 – WORKSHOPS FOR NEW POEMS!
8:00 am – Late registration and continental breakfast with bagels, cream cheese donuts, yogurts and some fruit at Heritage House

8:30 am – 10:15am: Workshop number one – Heritage House and Kelly’s

10:30 am - 12:15 pm: Workshop number two – Heritage House and Kelly’s

12:15 – 1:15 pm: Buffet lunch at Kelly’s upstairs

1:30 pm – 3:15 pm: Workshop number 3 – location to be determined and Customs House back porch

3:30 pm – 5:15 pm: Workshop number 4 – location to be determined and Customs House back porch

Dr. Michael Wyndham Thomas workshops: Empathy and Distance – Explore the notion of creating sympathy/empathy and
detachment/distance through poetic language.

Deborah Noeker and Dr. Michael : “The Road Less Taken”

Awarding of the “RFPF Poetry in the Schools Prizes” in three categories. Elementary school, Middle school and High School.
Reading of first place and second place poems by the authors.

2:30 pm – 3:00 pm : Reading by guest poets and audience discussion

3:00 pm Announcement of RFPF National Prize Poem and RFPF National Haiku winners. Reading of Frost prize poem by Dr. Michael
Wyndham Thomas and the first prize Haiku by Lee Gurga.
 
Monday April 24, 2006
Optional Sea Cruise to Dry Tortugas National Park via ferry. All day trip. Cost $139

Registration fee for workshop $125 if registered before March 1, $150 after March 1

Poet Laureate Robert Frost was a frequent visitor to 410 Caroline Street and wintered in the garden cottage now known as the Robert Frost Cottage. The annual poetry celebration is in recognition of the esteemed poet and serves to encourage other poets who have been inspired by our island city.
